Love in Action

I had planned to finish up school yesterday and write about how this Lenten Season has changed me. I had been thinking about it for days and wanted to talk about our Passover Seder the night before. I wanted to write about the beauty of Holy Week.

But a tornado touched down in our neighborhood yesterday afternoon. Our church has become the command post for the fireman and police and other rescue workers and a place for people to get meals. Our members have done a super job last night and today and will continue into next week.

Love: not only in words, but in deeds.

Oh Joy, I'm so sorry to hear about the tornado. I'm praying for everyone effected and helping.

Any damage?

I heard there was one in Arkansas, but I didn't know there was one in Alabama also. Glad y'all are ok.

The roof was bent a little. The grill was blown way across the yard and the trailer was blown down into the yard (your muscle-y sisters and I pulled it back up the incline yesterday with a few heaves!). There were lots of sticks and trash and leaves plastered everywhere. The church has a little damage, but it really hit right across the street - house trailers blown apart and trees down, a house in the middle of a street, house trailers literally disappeared. FEMA will be here on Tuesday and I guess they'll decide what strength tornado it was. I think 6 people were hurt, no one killed.

I'll talk to you next week because we're at the church just about constantly helping with meals.

I love you.
